Huzhou registers fastest growth in online consumption in Zhejiang

Official statistics from the Huzhou Municipal Bureau of Commerce show that the city's online retail sales hit 70.4 billion yuan ($10.83 billion) from January to October, rising 19.8 percent year-on-year.

The amount made up 3.8 percent of the total in Zhejiang over the 10-month period.

During this year's Singles' Day shopping spree, Huzhou reported that its online retail sales rose by 14.4 percent year-on-year to 4.2 billion yuan.

Meanwhile, online consumption from local residents was valued at 41.91 billion yuan, a yearly uptick of 17.2 percent, the highest in the province.

Over the same period, Huzhou handled 530 million parcels, up 30.9 percent year-on-year.

The city's Changxing district retained its leading role in online retail sales. The district's online retail sales volume amounted to 38.6 billion yuan during the 10-month period, accounting for 54.8 percent of the city's total.

In addition, Deqing county, Changxing county and Wuxing district tallied increases of 33.8 percent, 223 percent and 22 percent in online retail sales, respectively, from January to October. 

Huzhou held a total of 66,000 livestreams during this period, achieving 3.8 billion yuan in sales.
