"Always reflecting the light of others, but never losing its purity and brightness" is why people are fascinated with colored glaze, according to Jin.
Jin Xuru works as a design director at a colored glaze craft company in Huzhou, East China's Zhejiang province, after being introduced by the local government to the city last year as a premium talent.
Jin studied abroad for several years and worked as design director at some multinational companies. She is a gemologist accredited by the Gemmological Institute of America (GIA) and a guest lecturer at the Central Academy of Fine Arts.
Jin learned about Huzhou's Nanxun district for the first time 10 years ago, when she heard from a friend the legend that Fan Li and Xi Shi took colored glaze as a pledge of love in Nanxun.
The main reason she chose to work in Huzhou was that it brought her inner peace and serenity.
"Beijing and Shanghai have a lot of development opportunities, but the noisy environment in big cities makes it difficult for people to calm down and reflect," Jin said.
The tranquil, simple and composed soil of Huzhou is more suitable for artistic creation, she noted, adding that policy support for art from the local government has also given her a lot of confidence that she can perform better in her work.
Jin said that she hoped to have the opportunity to integrate Huzhou elements into space and jewelry design in the future, so that more people can feel the charms of Huzhou's landscapes.
