Dongguan Street from Huzhou recently made the list of the second batch of Zhejiang high-end pedestrian streets.

The street is located in the northern part of Nanxun Ancient Town, a national 5A scenic spot, in Huzhou's Nanxun district.

Following its upgrading, Dongguan Street has become a high-end pedestrian street lined with pubs, snacks bars, shops selling tea, herbs, hardware, and daily necessities.

Zhejiang launched a campaign in 2019 to build a number of high-end pedestrian streets as part of its efforts to cater to people's ever-growing needs for a better life.

The campaign, which has drawn nearly 2.9 billion yuan ($446 million) in investments to date, has extended the total length of the streets included in the program across the province by half.

Zhejiang is presently home to one national demonstration pedestrian street and 16 provincial high-end pedestrian streets.

These streets have more than 4,000 brands, among which about 45 percent have opened their first store in the city or the province.

The number of visitors the streets receive annually has risen by nearly 25 percent compared with before the renovation, while sales have expanded by 21 percent on an annual basis.
