The sales volume of 94 monitored businesses, including shopping malls, supermarkets, car dealerships, hotels, and restaurants, in Huzhou amounted to 908 million yuan ($139.7 million) during the seven-day Spring Festival holiday, which ended on Feb 6, official statistic show.
The figure represents a 17.5 percent year-on-year growth, according to the Huzhou Municipal Bureau of Commerce.
The six sampled commercial blocks in the city, including Aishan Square and Yishang Street, saw their foot traffic exceed 200,000 people and achieved a sales volume of more than 12 million yuan.
The 16 cinemas that were monitored garnered over 25 million yuan in ticket sales during the seven-day period, while the sales for six car dealerships climbed 8.3 percent year-on-year to more than 16.2 million yuan.
Authorities said the issuance of coupons worth 100 million yuan during the Spring Festival holiday played a big part in the consumption boom.
The coupons, which were released between Jan 30 and Feb 3, can be used in offline above-quota retailers, homestays and catering units in the city before Feb 15. As of Feb 3, these coupons have spurred consumption worth 195 million yuan.
Huzhou was also a hit tourism destination during the holiday period. In a report recently released by online travel agency Lvmama, the city was listed among the top 10 destinations nationwide for short-distance travels during the holiday.
Taihu Lake Longemont Paradise, a tourism complex from the city, also made the top 10 popular scenic spots in East China.
In addition, tourism sites related to ice and snow in the city such as Skyland in Anji county were hugely popular, thanks in part to the ongoing Winter Olympic Games.
