A racoon dog, a species under national second-level protection, was recently saved and released into the wild in Huzhou, East China's Zhejiang province.

Raccoon dogs are tame and shy. They usually stay in their burrows during the day and come out at night, according to an official at the Huzhou Municipal Bureau of Natural Resources and Planning.

In recent years, Huzhou has made sustained efforts to save wild animals. In 2021 alone, no fewer than 1,100 wild animals were saved in the city.
