The two stadiums in Huzhou's Deqing county that will host the 19th Asian Games' 3-on-3 basketball competitions and volleyball events are expected to finish construction in March, according to local media reports.
Deqing's rich experience in hosting high-profile sports events and its proximity to Hangzhou, the main venue of the Asian Games, makes it stand out from other candidates as a co-host city.
It takes only around 10 minutes to travel from Hangzhou to Deqing by bullet train. A number of high-profile sporting events, including the 2019 Canoe Polo Asia Cup and the TNF Cross Country Race, have been staged in the county.
A grand performance was staged in Hangzhou on the evening of Feb 21 to mark the beginning of the 200-day countdown to the Asian Games.
Two intangible cultural heritages from Huzhou – Changxing Baiyelong dance and Deqing Yeqiudeng dance - were showcased at the event.
Baiyelong, which literally means "a dragon made of a hundred lotus leaves", was inspired by a local legend about a dragon born in a lotus pond, while Yeqiudeng refers to a ball lantern made with colorful leaves.
