Huzhou recently ranked first among cities in Zhejiang in a provincial assessment of the promotion of household garbage sorting in 2021.

The evaluation was conducted by the Zhejiang Provincial Leading Group on Household Waste Classification.

It was the third year in a row for Huzhou to top cities in Zhejiang in the provincial assessment and the fourth consecutive year for the city to be rated as an "excellent city" in terms of garbage sorting in the province.

To date, Huzhou has removed old trash bins in 1,267 residential communities and asked residents to dispose of their garbage at centralized stations. Trucks are then assigned to collect the trash at a fixed time.

The classification rate of perishable waste in the city has reached about 30 percent, with over 95 percent of people being satisfied with the garbage classification.

In addition, the city has launched a smart supervision platform for household waste and come up with a plethora of innovative measures to promote garbage sorting. For example, stores have opened allowing people to trade recyclable trash for daily necessities.
