Two household garbage treatment practices adopted by Huzhou were recently given recognition after they were listed among the 10 best examples of household garbage treatment in Zhejiang province in 2021.

One practice that made the list is a unified management platform for garbage sorting, while the other one is a waste recycling system located in the city’s Deqing county.

Garbage sorting has in recent years gained traction in Huzhou, which was ranked first among cities in Zhejiang in a provincial assessment for the promotion of household garbage sorting in 2020.

Last year was the third consecutive year that Huzhou was rated as an "excellent city" in terms of garbage sorting in the province. In 2019, the city topped all cities in Zhejiang in the provincial assessment.

Huzhou saw a year-on-year decrease of 4.31 percent in household waste in 2020, the second year in a row that it reported a decline.

The city has adopted a series of innovative measures to promote garbage sorting. One such example is removing old trash bins and asking people to dispose of their garbage at centralized stations. Trucks are then assigned to collect the trash at a fixed time.
