A miniature mulberry fish pond was inaugurated in Huzhou University in East China's Zhejiang province on April 20, according to local media reports.

Huzhou is renowned for its mulberry fish ponds, a special dike-pond model that integrates fish ponds with the breeding of mulberry silkworms.

The model was listed among the Globally Important Agricultural Heritage Systems by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations in 2017.

The project, which covers an area of about 3,600 square meters, comes as part of the university's latest attempt to promote local sericulture (the culture of the silkworm) to the world.

In September 2020, Huzhou University was listed among the 106 places in China that would facilitate the inheritance of excellent traditional Chinese culture. It is also the only one that focuses on sericulture.
