Numerous companies in China have been tapping business opportunities generated by the nationwide garbage sorting campaign.

Focused on the promotion of the application of technologies including Internet of Things and artificial intelligence in garbage classification, Huzhou Azureflying Weimin Environmental Protection Technology Co Ltd is among those that have jumped on the bandwagon.

Official statistics show that the company's revenue surpassed 2 million yuan ($307,692.3) in the first quarter of this year, five times that of the same period last year.

The fast growth has paved the way for the company to become an above-designated-size company – it refers to enterprises with an annual revenue of 20 million yuan or more - this year, according to Xiong Wei, general manager at Azureflying.

The company was established in Huzhou's Anji county in September 2020 after winning the second prize of an innovation and venture contest organized by local authorities.

Azureflying has introduced an array of products related to garbage classification since its inception. For example, it has developed garbage cans embedded with sensors that can track garbage volume and judge whether they are sorted properly, Xiong said.

The company has also unveiled an AI-powered robotic arm for sorting garbage.
