Consumption booms in Huzhou during May Day holiday

The sales of 51 monitored businesses, including shopping malls, supermarkets, car dealerships, hotels, and restaurants, in Huzhou, East China's Zhejiang province amounted to 214 million yuan ($32.92 million) during the five-day May Day holiday, which ended on May 4, according to official data from the Huzhou Municipal Bureau of Commerce.

Official data shows that the 24 sampled markets in Huzhou purchased an average 1,900 metric tons of vegetables and 150 tons of pork every day during the five-day holiday.

Over the period, the 10 surveyed supermarkets in the city including Zhebei Supermarket and RT-Mart achieved a sales volume of nearly 30 million yuan, while the 16 sampled shopping malls including Zhebei Shopping Mall generated 138 million yuan in sales.

The issuance of coupons during the holiday played a big part in the consumption boom.

The city's Anji county released 50 million yuan worth of coupons to stimulate consumption, and its Wuxing district issued coupons worth 5 million yuan to revitalize the cultural and tourism sectors.

In addition, Huzhou also staged 48 activities to promote consumption across the city during the holiday.
