A helicopter was used to repair two defects on the Huzhou UHV dense transmission channel in East China's Zhejiang province on May 16.

This is the first time in China that a helicopter is used to repair an operational UHV dense transmission channel, marking a new breakthrough in China's UHV operation and maintenance technology.

The repair was carried out by the Huzhou branch of the State Grid. Technicians took just two hours to replace a spacer and install a nut.

The use of the helicopter had significantly sped up the repair work, allowing it to be completed in two hours. The duration of the power outage, due to the repair work and additional maintenance tasks, was limited to just five hours.

Measuring 110 kilometers in length, the Huzhou UHV dense transmission channel is a key energy transmission link in China's west-to-east power transmission program.

The maximum transmission capacity of the lines in the channel is 29.8 million kilowatts, and more than 70 percent of the power load is transmitted to Shanghai.
