Three administrative areas in Huzhou – Wuxing district, Nanxun district and Deqing county – were recently included in the provincial program for common prosperity.

Wuxing was included primarily due to its innovative policies to optimize services for migrant workers aged between 18 and 39.

By 2024, the local government aims to have 78 percent of migrant workers of this age range in the district become permanent residents. Authorities have also set the target to have 65 percent of them purchase a house in the district, and 75 of them included in the social security system.

The inclusion of Nanxun district was largely due its introductions of investments by State-owned enterprises to villages.

Meanwhile, Deing was chosen due to its excellent performance in promoting spiritual common prosperity.

The county retained its laurel as a national civilized city and scored the highest among the 134 county-level civilized cities in China in 2021. The National Civilized City award, given out every three years, is the highest honor a Chinese city can achieve.

According to a report released in April, Huzhou was ranked first in Zhejiang in a provincial appraisal of efforts to boost common prosperity in 2021.

Eleven cities across the province were assessed based on factors including public safety, transportation, employment and entrepreneurship, and urban-rural gap.

Huzhou scored 85.13 points, well above the provincial average, which stood at 83.38 points.
