The Yangtze River Delta Photography Art Week opened in Huzhou, East China's Zhejiang province on July 16, local media reported.

The event, which is in its third edition this year, will run until July 28 and is part of local authorities' efforts to improve the city's profile and showcase the changes brought by the integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta, a region encompassing the provinces of Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Anhui as well as the Shanghai municipality.

Luminaries including Li Ge, chairman of the Chinese Photographers Association, and Wang Xiaochuan, chairman of the Zhejiang Photographers Association, gave lectures themed on art aesthetics at the opening ceremony.

Huzhou's beautiful landscape, prosperous culture and long history make it an ideal place for photographic art creation, according to Wang.

Qin Hong, chairwoman of the Huzhou Federation of Literary and Art Circles, expressed hope that more photographers will visit Huzhou to document its journey to becoming a green, low-carbon, and modern city.

That same day, exhibitions featuring several renowned photographers from the delta region also opened in the city's Aishan Square and Xiaoxi Street.

Situated in the central part of the Yangtze River Delta, Huzhou is a city with a history of more than 2,300 years. The city has long been a production hub for silk, porcelain, writing brush and tea. It is also known as the birthplace of the concept which states "lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets" and the cradle of China's "Beautiful Village" initiative.
