Huzhou pockets 1st gold medal at provincial games

Hu Jia, an athlete from Huzhou, won the city's first gold medal in the men's singles tennis competition at the 17th Games of Zhejiang Province on July 29.

Born in 2009, Hu joined the Huzhou Tennis Team in 2019 before winning the men's singles title at the 2021 Nike Junior Tour.

Since its establishment in 2003, Huzhou Tennis Team has cultivated more than 40 outstanding tennis players like Hu.

The Games of Zhejiang Province is the largest sporting event in the province and is held every four years.

This year, more than 16,000 athletes from across Zhejiang are participating in the event, which is being hosted in Jinhua, a city in western Zhejiang. This year's competition, which features 910 disciplines from 34 sports, will have 1,076 gold medals up for grabs.

Huzhou sent a delegation composed of more than 1,200 athletes to compete in 24 sports and three mass public events. This delegation to the Games is the largest in the city's history.
