The Anji Ancient City Archaeological Site Park recently made the list of the fourth group of 19 national archaeological site park released by the National Cultural Heritage Administration.

The park is the first national archaeological site park in Huzhou and the fourth in Zhejiang province, according to Ke Anshun, head of the site conservation center.

Covering an area of about 330,000 square meters, the Anji Ancient City was built in the Spring and Autumn Period (770-476 BC). It is one of the best-preserved city sites of the same period found so far in the Taihu Lake Basin and Zhejiang.

More than 1,000 pieces of cultural relics including potteries, porcelains and jades have been unearthed from the site.

To better protect and utilize the cultural relics, the park has brought in private capital, becoming the first national archaeological site park to do so.

The archaeological site is also the first in the nation to have a library, which has more than 5,500 books on archaeology, history and culture, and relic parks.

Last May, the park constructed a number of facilities for study tours. It has since its opening one year ago received nearly 120,000 visitors and generated more than 20 million yuan ($2.86 million) in revenue.
