Huzhou in East China's Zhejiang province has been continuously optimizing its public transportation services as part of a broader push to boost common prosperity.

An urban-rural bus service system was put in place in Huzhou in June 2021, and authorities have made bus services available to all of its 405 administrative villages.

All buses running on roads in the city are now completely powered by electricity and support mobile payment systems.

In addition, Huzhou has launched a campaign which involves installing an electronic screen at each bus stop that provides bus arrival information.

The city has also launched a fixed-fare system, meaning the fare is no longer decided by distance, and this has significantly slashed public transportation costs.

Huzhou was honored as a model city in terms of bus services last August, after the role of the city's transportation system in boosting common prosperity was ranked first in an appraisal of cities in Zhejiang in January.

The Huzhou government has set the goal of becoming the first city in the province to make electric charging piles available in rural areas.
