The new campus of Zhejiang Institute of Communications in Huzhou's Changxing county broke ground on March 6, according to local media reports.

This is the first university to be established in Changxing.

The school, which spans more than 340 mu (22.67 hectares), will include a teaching complex, training and experimenting complex, offices, library and dormitory.

Its construction will be divided into two phases, with the first phase expected to be completed in March 2024. The school will welcome its first batch of 3,000 students and teachers in September 2024.

Chen Kai, principal of Zhejiang Institute of Communications, pointed out that Changxing is an ideal location to set up the school as its industries, which include new energy vehicles and equipment manufacturing, are aligned with the institute's disciplines.

Another key factor is that Changxing is located just a 2-hour drive away from three major cities in the Yangtze River Delta – Shanghai, Hangzhou and Nanjing.

Hailing the school's construction as a milestone event in the county's education development, Shi Yiting, head of Changxing, pledged that the government will spare no efforts to aid the construction of the new campus.

Pan Yuhuan, Party chief of Lincheng town, where the campus is located, said that they will work with local companies to offer internship opportunities to more than 1,500 graduates from the school every year.
