A provincial grape contest was recently held in Haiyan county, Jiaxing, East China's Zhejiang province, with grape growers from all over the region showcasing their finest fruits for evaluation.

After comprehensive evaluation by a panel of experts, focusing on criteria such as appearance and quality, a total of 10 grapes were selected as the gold award winners, while 20 grapes received the outstanding quality award.

Representing Huzhou, five remarkable samples were presented at the competition, with two taking home the coveted gold award and one clinching the outstanding quality award.

With a production area reaching 58,800 mu (3,920 hectares) this year, grapes have become the leading fruit industry in Huzhou. The crop is projected to yield 86,100 metric tons, amounting to a total output value of 1.03 billion yuan ($141.24 million).

In recent years, Huzhou has made remarkable progress in promoting the cultivation and development of high-quality grapes thanks to the introduction of new varieties, cutting-edge technologies, and innovative approaches.

This concerted effort has yielded a marked increase in sales. Notably, it has given rise to a substantial number of medium-scale operators, with an annual output value surpassing 1 million yuan. These operators have played a crucial role in promoting common prosperity among local farmers.
