A delegation of expats was recently invited to attend the annual legislative meeting of Huzhou in East China's Zhejiang province.

Comprising a mix of experts and business executives, the group participated as observers at the first plenary meeting of the fourth session of the ninth Huzhou Municipal People's Congress, which took place on Jan 31.

To give them an understanding of how the nation's legislative system works and acquaint them with Huzhou's ongoing development, Huzhou organized a symposium after the opening ceremony.

Zhang Yi, director of the Secretariat of the Huzhou People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, underlined the significance of the occasion, which marks the first time that expats have been invited to observe the city's legislative process.

One of the expats in attendance was an Iranian entrepreneur who established a company in Zhili Town, Wuxing district in 2015. He expressed his enthusiasm about the event, remarking, "This has been a wonderful experience, giving me a comprehensive and intuitive understanding of the people's congress system in China and boosting my confidence in investing and starting a business in Huzhou."

Zhou Yong, deputy head of the Committee of Ethics, Religious, Overseas Chinese, and Foreign Affairs of the Huzhou Municipal People's Congress, emphasized the importance of foreign nationals observing the local people's congress. He underscored that this practice allows them to gain insights into the city's key dynamics and development trends, while their international perspectives can lead to valuable advice and suggestions for local development.
