Print PrintWith his slightly dark complexion, unassuming appearance, and his penchant for spending his days squatting in the wheat fields, Zhu Junke is hard to be associated with titles like political advisor, chairman, breeding expert, and professor.
Except for meetings and business trips, Zhu, chairman of Zibo Hefeng Seed Technology, spends almost 300 days a year in wheat fields. He has a dream to breed higher-quality, higher-yield wheat to help farmers to increase their incomes and become prosperous.
He has planted wheat by his office desk, beside the dining room table, and even on the company's property. Zhu said that this allows him to watch the wheat's growth at any time, bringing him a sense of peace whenever he sees the wheat thriving.
As a member of the Shandong Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, Zhu has submitted proposals on agriculture-related issues to the sessions of the provincial political advisory body every year since the first session of the 13th CPPCC Shandong Provincial Committee, such as food security, land transfer, and unmanned farms. Each proposal emerged from experiments, research, and wheat fields.
At this year's session, Zhu focused his proposal on enhancing farmers' income, calling for improving the grain procurement system, increasing policy support for grain subsidies, insurance, and enhancing the technological support, promoting the integrated development of the primary, secondary and tertiary industries in rural areas, increasing the farmers' income, thus ensure the sustained and stable increase in grain production.
