Print PrintFederico, known as "Uncle Fei" – an Italian living in Dongying city in East China's Shandong province – has really embraced Chinese culture with enthusiasm and open arms.
Since moving to China in 2019, he's increasingly grown fond of local tradition and is now sharing his love of Italy and China through a new restaurant and cultural exchanges.
On Feb 3, the sixth day of Chinese New Year, Federico began the day by writing Chinese New Year couplets at his home. He wrote phrases like "Fu" (blessing), which he then shared with friends.

Federico has become an active member of the Dongying community since moving from Italy's province of Rimini in 2019. Along his wife, Dong Yan, he's really embraced local customs, celebrating traditions like Spring Festival with friends and neighbors. This year, they shared handmade couplets at a local cafe, wishing others a prosperous Chinese New Year.
What began as unfamiliarity with Spring Festival has now become a time of warmth and family for Federico. He fondly recalls celebrating Chinese New Year's Eve with local friends, making dumplings and decorating their home. The festive atmosphere, from red lanterns to lively markets, has made Dongying feel like home.
In January, Federico and Dong Yan opened Uncle Fei's House, an Italian restaurant in Dongying, bridging the gap between Chinese and Italian cultures.
For Federico, the word "home" best describes his life in China, where he feels embraced by the local community.
