Print PrintThe recent animated blockbuster Ne Zha 2 has taken the box office by storm, and three Shandong-based enterprises played a significant role in its production.
This is the second time that Shandong New Sight Digital Technology Co, which is located in Jinan, capital of Shandong province, has partaken in the production of a Ne Zha film, after Ne Zha: Birth of the Demon Child (Ne Zha 1).
During this second collaboration, the company was responsible for the production of several key characters, notably bringing to life the captivating personas of Shiji Niangniang and Magic Mirror, both of which are considered highlights of the film.
The character of Shiji Niangniang underwent a transformative reimagining for Ne Zha 2, shifting from the traditional perception of an evil antagonist to a kind-hearted, brave female. The creative team behind the new visuals broke free from female stereotypes, giving her a fresh and unique appearance. This innovative design sparked widespread discussion.
"In the future, the company will work to take Shandong's original works beyond borders, infusing the spirit of Shandong culture into the national animation and digital industries," said Zhang Luzhe, general manager of Shandong New Sight Digital Technology Co.
Two other Shandong-based companies, Qingdao Hongchen Technology and Culture Co and Qingdao Tonghuan Animation Co, also helped animate the film. They were responsible for producing several water-related scenes, as well as skill effects and certain fabric simulation shots.
In recent years, Shandong province has been making continuous efforts in the cultural and creative industries, with the animation sector emerging as a highlight. The participation of Shandong-based companies in the production of the Ne Zha films will inspire more local animation enterprises to enhance their capabilities and drive the rise of Shandong's animation industry.
