Xiamen recognized as China's most competitive MICE city
The 2024 report on Chinese cities' Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE) industry competitiveness index was released in Chengdu on Nov 28. Xiamen ranked 12th nationally and retained its title as a "China's most competitive MICE city", reflecting its consistent strength in the sector.
The index, now in its 10th year, has evolved into a comprehensive system evaluating five dimensions: industry specialization, enterprise competitiveness, infrastructure, macro-environment, and integrated services.

This year's release also introduced a "professional venue competitiveness" ranking, which assessed 305 venues nationwide. Three Xiamen venues — Xiamen International Conference & Exhibition Center, Xiamen International Expo Center, and Xiamen Fliport C&E Center — were listed 17th, 28th, and 72nd respectively, showcasing the city's strong infrastructure cluster.
During the panel discussion following the release, participants discussed industrial integration, regional collaboration, and technology-driven green transition. They agreed that a robust MICE sector plays a pivotal role in attracting high-end resources and boosting urban economic growth.
Yu Hao, director of the Xiamen Municipal Bureau of Convention and Exhibition, emphasized that a city's industrial foundation is key to the sector's development, stating that Xiamen will continue to build its exhibition brands to achieve high-quality growth in the field.
The index not only reflects a decade of progress in China's MICE industry but also provides a platform for cities to share insights and collaborate on future growth.

Why Xiamen
-
Xiamen is one of the most economically competitive cities in China and was one of the first Special Economic Zones on the Chinese mainland. As a vice-provincial city independently listed on the State development plan, it has provincial-level authority in economic administration and local legislative power. In 2010, the Xiamen SEZ was expanded to cover the entire municipality. Today, Xiamen is a modern and international port city.
