Xiamen-Jinmen 'Mini Three Links' route marks 25 years
The Xiamen-Jinmen "Mini Three Links" ferry route celebrated its 25th anniversary of operation on Jan 2. Since its launch in 2001, the route has transported over 23.5 million passengers in total, becoming the busiest corridor for cross-Strait travel.
Nowadays, the sea voyage takes less than 30 minutes. With its advantages of being economical, convenient, and safe, the ferry route has become an "accelerator" for cross-Strait economic and trade cooperation.
After 2014, Wutong Passenger Wharf became the sole ferry hub for cross-Strait travel. The wharf now features a modern waiting hall spanning approximately 103,000 square meters, capable of handling up to 3.5 million passengers annually.
Through sea-air intermodal transport, Xiamen connects to approximately 100 cities across the country, while Jinmen links to six major aviation hubs in Taiwan. The transfer cost is only half that of a direct flight, reducing logistics and travel expenses for businesses and individuals.
Many Taiwan entrepreneurs frequently travel across the Strait via this route to pursue investment and business opportunities, while small and medium-sized enterprises on both sides use it to expand into Southeast Asian markets.
As it embarks on the next chapter after 25 years, the ferry route will continue to advance smart customs clearance and digital services to enhance travel efficiency. It will also streamline customs procedures and improve service quality, contributing to the development of a "30-minute transportation circle" and a "one-day living zone" between Xiamen and Jinmen.
Why Xiamen
-
Xiamen is one of the most economically competitive cities in China and was one of the first Special Economic Zones on the Chinese mainland. As a vice-provincial city independently listed on the State development plan, it has provincial-level authority in economic administration and local legislative power. In 2010, the Xiamen SEZ was expanded to cover the entire municipality. Today, Xiamen is a modern and international port city.
