GUi-backed enterprise pioneering advanced sensing technology

A novel sensing technology is gaining momentum in the bustling landscape of Grand Innovation of Union (GUi) in Hefei, Anhui province. The technology, named distributed acoustic sensing (DAS), is known for its capabilities in long-distance, wideband, precise and integrated sensing and communication, which is essential to ideals such as smart city, intelligent transportation and environmental preservation. 

The technology, however, still relies on the ubiquitous fiber to bring up its potential, and Smart Earth Sensing as a start-up in GUi has been investing tremendous efforts in its research and application. "We hope to map the underground space in multiple dimensions," said Zhang Qiang, the chief executive of the company, in an interview with 36Kr, a Chinese news media, in 2023.

DAS epitomizes the cutting-edge change in reshaping urban infrastructure monitoring, public safety, and emergency services. The equipment based on the technology, ZD-DAS™ and ZD-DTS™, boasts advanced capabilities in different sensing scenarios such as energy exploration, mining safety, and urban subsurface exploration and have been deployed in the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics.

The ecosystem of GUi has provided fertile ground for the company's growth. The collaborative environment, coupled with professional support services, has propelled the company's research endeavors and technology application, Zhang said.

Moreover, GUi provided earmarked financial support to the company, Zhang added. The various financial support by GUi has been extended to over 30 enterprises and 60 teams in 2023.

Looking ahead, the company remains committed to diversifying its applications across various sectors.
