On July 17, the "Global Talents Hefei Tour" matchmaking event for the Hong Kong Young Scientists Association (HKYSA) and Yale University was held at the Zhong'an Chuanggu Technology Park, the core area of the Grand Union of Innovation (GUi).
A total of 34 experts and young talents from HKYSA and Yale, along with representatives from various sectors in Hefei, gathered to discuss innovative collaborations.
Ten innovative projects aimed at exploring industrial applications for artificial intelligence (AI), biomedicine, new materials, and green technology showcased various technological breakthroughs. GUi pledged to provide financial support for the application of cutting-edge technologies.
One intervention program for Alzheimer's disease combined exercise bikes with virtual reality technology. By having participants pedal through restored scenes of parks and old streets, which can enhance spatial cognition and stimulate patients' memories, it aims to combat the memory loss caused by the neurodegenerative disease.
To improve the quality of life for amputees, a joint doctoral team from Xi'an Jiaotong University and City University of Hong Kong presented an electromyography control device. By recording electrical signals produced by muscle activity, users can achieve precise control with arm movements alone, helping them integrate into the digital age.
To economically manage lepidolite tailings from lithium extraction, the Great Bay Green Tech (GBGT) utilized processes such as high-temperature calcination and hydrothermal activation to convert tailings into adsorbents, exhibiting over 90 percent efficiency in cadmium ion adsorption. This technology can be applied to soil remediation and water purification.
The road show highlighted the innovative prowess of young scholars, as Hefei becomes a magnet for global talent. GUi is committed to providing a platform for elite talents to launch their entrepreneurial endeavors, with the GUi guiding fund offering financial backing for scientific and technological ventures.
