How GUi is powering Anhui's innovation ecosystem

The Grand Union of Innovation (GUi), supported by the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) and its worldwide alumni network, is becoming a dynamic center for technology commercialization, startup support, and industrial development in Anhui.

This September, GUi made a strong presence on the global stage —from showcasing cutting-edge products at the 25th China International Fair for Investment and Trade to hosting matchmaking events during the 2025 World Manufacturing Convention.

The month concluded with the 2025 Hefei International New Energy Vehicle Convention, fostering cross-border cooperation in the auto industry with partners from Vietnam and South Korea.

"Beyond showcasing innovation, GUi aims to connect with global ecosystems," said Wu Hailong, chairman of GUiTEK Service Platform.

To bridge the "valley of death" between research and market, GUi has developed a comprehensive framework that links policy coordination, technology management, and commercialization services.

Specialized taskforces, university liaison managers, and professional technology managers work to synchronize early-stage research with industrial requirements, streamline patent processes, and accelerate pilot production.

Collaborations such as the "medical research-engineering innovation" framework with the First Affiliated Hospital of USTC have resulted in new ventures like Anhui Bolin Health Tech at the GUi.

Meanwhile, GUi has developed an integrated ecosystem where "upstairs are innovators, downstairs are manufacturers" by bringing in market-oriented operators, launching benchmark innovation units, and building multi-partner innovation consortia.

Companies such as Hefei Windiwill Semiconductor and Astra Optics highlight how collaboration speed translates into industrial outcomes.

GUi has launched reforms in areas such as partnership development, technology transfer, sci-tech finance, talent training, and innovation support. USTC's "empowerment + transfer + agreed income" model has been adopted by more than 100 universities and institutes throughout Anhui.

A dedicated special fund that combines allocation and investment supports early-stage innovation. Its dual system of sub-funds and direct investment has financed over 100 startups, including high-end medical device maker Jitong Medical Technology.

With a comprehensive life-cycle innovation service system, over 300 startups benefit from customized support, mentorship, and incubation programs. GUi keeps broadening its international recruitment channels and has introduced GUi Space and the "GUiker Hub" to support global innovators in establishing and expanding their presence in Anhui.

Looking ahead, GUi will further connect global capital, markets, and talent with Anhui's emerging industries — turning the "flowers of innovation" into the "fruits of industry".
