Incubated by the MIRA Lab at the University of Science and Technology of China, Yuanwei Xiansi, an AI technology company based in the Grand Union of Innovation (GUi), has launched an AI-powered glass detection system, based on its self-developed multimodal large model named "Bai Ze".
The intelligent device has been implemented on the production line at glass factories across Anhui province, with industrial cameras that can capture every scratch and flaw on glassware, and an AI model that processes images, detects defects, and removes substandard products, enhancing both accuracy and efficiency.
Inspired by the mythical creature known for its omniscience according to ancient Chinese legends, the team at Yuanwei Xiansi named their AI model "Bai Ze" to reflect its ability to recognize intricate visual patterns and complex industrial scenes.
The first complete version was launched in early 2025. Unlike common large models that rely on massive computing clusters, "Bai Ze" is designed for high cost-performance. It achieves 90 percent compression of mainstream models while maintaining performance, making it faster, more compact, and ideal for industrial applications.
The model employs a "multi-expert collaborative inference" architecture. Instead of a single model handling all tasks, it identifies the task type and routes it to a specialized "sub-model", like a team of experts each focusing on their domain.
Beyond industrial quality control, Yuanwei Xiansi is expanding the applications of its model, from drone-based crop monitoring in smart agriculture to enhancing urban governance by detecting illegal parking and waste disposal.

China aims to take the lead in AI industry applications to empower various sectors across the economy, enhancing the integration of AI with industrial development, cultural progress, public welfare, and social governance.
"We hope that within three to five years, the 'Bai Ze' multimodal model will be part of the first tier of technologies, widely applied in scenarios like industrial quality control, spatial inspection, and risk detection," said Liu.
With the help of its robust innovation ecosystem, Hefei continues to foster the growth of key technologies, commercialization of innovation achievements, and cultivation of tech enterprises, transforming innovations into real-world productivity.
