As a significant technological innovation hub of Hefei in East China’s Anhui province, the Grand Union of Innovation (GUi) has become a leading player in the technology transfer and commercialization alliance forged by Anhui provincial universities.
The first meeting of the alliance was held on June 15, when over 200 representatives from the provincial government, universities, enterprises, and financial institutions in Anhui gathered to discuss new paths for collaborative innovation between universities and local industries.
Guided by the Department of Education of Anhui Province, the meeting was co-hosted by Anhui Jianzhu University, the Grand Union of Innovation Service Platform, and other organizations aimed at refining standardized operational mechanisms for the alliance and building a comprehensive service system to drive the efficient commercialization of scientific and technological achievements from universities in Anhui, thus contributing to the building of a modern industrial system in the province.
Qian Guilun, director of the Department of Education of Anhui Province, expressed hope that the alliance would focus on the province's overall development and the core task of commercializing technological achievements.
He called for integrating the roles of government, industry, academia, research, finance, and service, thereby increasing the utilization efficiency of university innovation resources and facilitating the practical application of research achievements in industry and public service.
During the meeting, the Anhui Jianzhu University-GUi liaison station was established, and preparations for the Anhui Provincial Universities Regional Technology Transfer and Commercialization Center began.
Addressing the meeting, Wu Hailong, chairman of the Grand Union of Innovation Service Platform, said that the alliance's goals align with GUi’s mission to serve academic and innovation talent around the globe.
Wu said that the GUi has developed a comprehensive service system for the entire lifecycle of technology transfer and commercialization, supported by a fund totaling 30 billion yuan ($4.16 billion), a 600,000-square-meter innovation carrier, and at least 500 open opportunities for application scenarios. It also provides end-to-end support from concept validation to industrial application on the market.
Zhang Liye, the GUi’s executive vice-president, emphasized that the GUi is an innovative ecosystem that connects global universities and industries. He expressed hope that the alliance would become a new highlight of China's technology transfer and commercialization efforts through a network of technology manager offices, a fund matrix, and global partners to help universities' innovations flourish in Anhui.
