Event held to showcase sci-tech facilities serving industrial applications

Hefei Comprehensive National Science Center unveiled its research achievements in large sci-tech facilities for 2026 in Hefei, East China's Anhui province, on July 27, showcasing a synchrotron radiation facility and a future network testing facility.

The launch event, hosted by the National Synchrotron Radiation Laboratory at the University of Science and Technology of China, China Environment for Network Innovations (CENI) – Hefei, and GUiTEK, gathered government officials and representatives of research institutions, industrial enterprises, financial institutions and industry associations to witness the achievements, with three incubated companies presenting their projects.

The two sci-tech facilities introduced innovative solutions across various sectors, including new materials, semiconductors, precision measurement, hydrogen energy, network communication, and space information, marking a significant step toward transforming scientific innovation into industrial applications.

Feng Guangyao, deputy director of the National Synchrotron Radiation Laboratory, highlighted the facility's core value as China's first dedicated synchrotron radiation facility.

It provides a continuous spectrum of light from infrared to X-rays, supporting key enterprises like BOE Technology Group, Anhui Wanwei Group and Gotion High-tech. These companies benefit from assistance in overcoming technological challenges in lithography, film material defect analysis and in-situ observation of battery dendrites, Feng said, adding that the laboratory has also incubated companies such as Zokgra.

Tan Xiaobin, chief engineer of CENI, introduced an intelligent network testing platform covering nine cities. With over 2,200 users and 7,700 tests conducted, the platform supports the testing of cutting-edge technologies like covert communication and blockchain. Innovations include the world's first ultra-high-performance intelligent switch and a terabit-level secure gateway, breaking foreign monopolies in the industry, Tan said.

Three companies showcased their commercialization paths, leveraging the facilities' technologies. Anhui Guokeliangguang Technology has developed the country's first desktop DUV-EUV-XUV high-brightness light source, supporting research and innovation across multiple fields such as semiconductor inspection, energy materials, and biomedicine. Hefei New Source Instrument focused on mass spectrometry technology, while the Soft Matter team targeted PVA optical film, polarizer support film, and other key films for new display technologies.

The event also featured the promotion of quantum thin-film materials for chip applications in the post-Moore era, developed by the research team led by Zhang Jinxing.

The event facilitated deep exchanges between industry and investment institutions, accelerating the technology transfer and commercialization.

As Hefei continues to bridge the gap from original innovation to industrial application, GUiTEK will continue to play a crucial role in transforming scientific breakthroughs into market-ready technologies.
