The 2025 Shanghai Investment Promotion Conference in Support of the China International Import Expo was held on Wednesday to help businesses better explore opportunities in the coming CIIE and the city.
More than 170 delegates include government officials from the Shanghai Commission of Commerce, the Pudong New Area and CIIE Bureau, foreign chambers of commerce, business agencies and business representatives participated in the event.
He Dongbin, deputy director of the Shanghai Commission of Commerce, said that the annual CIIE is not just a key practice of China in promoting global economic governance but a bridge to connect global businesses with Chinese opportunities.
According to He, Shanghai will organize a slew of events to demonstrate its charm in the business world during the 2025 CIIE. This includes the annual Shanghai City Investment Promotion Conference, the CIIE Shanghai Conference, and nearly 100 themed forums and meetings. Those events will promote communications in areas such as opening the economy, green and low-carbon development and digital trade to spark inspiration among global investors.
"The CIIE is a major global economic and trade event, serving as a platform for win-win cooperation among participants. I hope this event will help global investors seize opportunities in China, expand their presence in emerging sectors like intelligent manufacturing, green technology and the digital economy, and also boost the introduction of high-quality service industries," said He.
Xu Xin, deputy head of Pudong New Area, highlighted the business environment, emphasizing the dual focus on attracting foreign investment and supporting domestic companies in exploring overseas markets.
"We welcome global companies to deepen their presence in Pudong and empower local businesses to pursue overseas expansion," said Xu. "Our aim is to develop Pudong into a hub for global trade and resource allocation. We look forward to collaborating with all parties to create a new blueprint for high-quality development."
Stuart Dunn, executive director of the British Chamber of Commerce Shanghai, and Tan Hann Syn, chairman of MayCham China Shanghai Office, shared their experiences from past CIIEs.
Xue Feng, director of the Shanghai Foreign Investment Development Board, announced 59 visitation routes and 43 promotional events for potential investors during the 2025 CIIE.
Representatives from Pudong New Area, Putuo district, Baoshan district and Lingang New Area showcased their key industries to all the guests at the event.
A representative from the Shanghai Eastern Hub International Business Cooperation Zone introduced the latest developments in the 880,000-square-meter area, which allows foreign visitors with valid invitations to enter Shanghai without visas or other permits and stay for up to 30 days per entry, with the option to apply for extensions if needed.
