The Huangyan Grotto in Taizhou, Zhejiang province, after a year of transformation, opened to the public on Jan 22 with a fresh new look.

Located in Huangyan district, the Huangyan Grotto scenic area is a quarry relic with a long history.

Unlike traditional tourist spots, the revamped Huangyan Grotto has been reimagined with a modern twist. The three caves now serve as a public area, an entertainment and leisure zone, and a themed restaurant. Visitors will find coffee, cultural creative products, and art exhibitions that appeal to the younger crowd.

Designed by a team from Tsinghua University, the transformation focused on the protective restoration of the grotto community while infusing a youthful and trendy vibe.

The grotto has been transformed into a contemporary art and cultural space, aiming to attract visitors of all ages, especially younger audiences, through a series of creative activities, said Yang Yin, director of the Cultural, Radio, Television, Tourism, and Sports Bureau of Huangyan district.

Covering an area of approximately 20,680 square meters, the Huangyan Grotto offers a tour stretching over 2,000 meters and around 2.5 hours. During the trial phase from Jan 22 to April 22, the scenic area opens from 10 am to 5:30 pm every day.

Over 20 activities will be offered during Spring Festival, extending from day to night, to enhance visitor experiences and create a vibrant festive ambiance.
