Zhejiang adds 10 gold medals at national games

Zhejiang athletes added 10 gold medals, 10 silver medals, and seven bronze medals on Dec 14 at the 12th National Games for Athletes with Disabilities and the 9th National Special Olympic Games, as the event entered its penultimate day.

Athletics, swimming, and several other disciplines concluded on the day. Of Zhejiang's gold medals, four came from swimming, two from athletics, two from goalball for athletes with visual impairments, and one each from sitting volleyball and badminton.

In the men's 10,000-meter final for athletes with hearing impairments, Xu Kuantian from Dongyang crossed the line first in 29 minutes 57.35 seconds, setting a new national record and securing the gold medal.

Earlier in the competition, Xu had also broken national records he previously held in the men's 5,000 meters and the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase, both in the hearing-impaired category, winning gold in each event.

Zhejiang continued its dominance in goalball, with both the men's and women's teams securing their fifth consecutive titles. In the men's sitting volleyball final, Zhejiang defeated Yunnan to successfully defend its championship.

In the women's deaf basketball semifinals, Zhejiang advanced to the final with a 63-41 victory. The team is scheduled to face Liaoning on Dec 15, with another gold medal at stake as the games near their conclusion.
