The Institute of Archaeology of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences – a leading archaeological research institution in China -- recently established its East China base in Binhu district, Wuxi city, in Jiangsu province, according to local reports.
The relics management agency of Wuxi Helv City and the institute signed a cooperation agreement to jointly develop the base at an opening ceremony at Helv Relics Museum on June 3.
The ceremony presented the base as an open platform integrating archaeological excavation, academic exchanges and the cultivation of talent for universities and related institutions, which will improve Wuxi's research capabilities in cultural relics.
Officials said the institute plays a significant role in protecting national archaeological sites and excavations -- and the base will promote archaeological development in the region as Jiangsu is a province in East China with many cultural relics and the most bodies with archaeological excavation qualifications.
The main provincial cultural relics and archaeological institutions in the province's cities agreed to facilitate the establishment of the base at the opening ceremony.
