Two Wuxi-based companies, China Construction Steel Structure Jiangsu Corporation and Daming Heavy Industry Co, participated in the construction of the EL-Ferdan Bridge, which was connected on Nov 16 in Egypt.
As a national key project in Egypt and an important piece of infrastructure for countries involved in the Belt and Road Initiative, it is the world's longest flat-rotating railway bridge.
After being put into operation, the bridge will be able to be rotated and locked within 18 minutes, which will reduce the single passing time of railway transportation from 30 minutes to only three minutes.
The main steel structure of the EL-Ferdan Bridge over the Suez Canal was completely provided and welded on site by China Construction Steel Structure Jiangsu Corp.
Xia Yuegang, the company's production manager, said that the production provided to the bridge requires extremely high processing capacity, with the thickness of the steel member reaching 150 millimeters, the maximum weight being 152 tons, and the longest length being 40 meters.
China Construction Steel Structure Jiangsu Corp started construction on the project in August 2019. The first batch of 7,106 tons of steel components was manufactured and shipped in only 106 days, said Xia.
