Scott Walker, Shanghai consul general of the United States, recently visited Wuxi in Jiangsu province, where he attended a concert jointly delivered by the Philadelphia Orchestra from the US and the Wuxi Symphony Orchestra.
Zhao Jianjun, mayor of Wuxi, met with Walker to discuss the possibility of increasing cultural and people-to-people exchanges.
Zhao noted that US is an important trade and investment partner of Wuxi, and both sides have in recent years maintained close ties, leading to many accomplishments in economic and trade cooperation as well as sister-city and cultural exchanges.
He said he expects the consul general to introduce more partners to Wuxi, expand sister-city and sister-school cooperation, and help promote the city.
Walker expressed his pleasure in visiting Wuxi alongside the Philadelphia Orchestra. He emphasized that promoting cultural exchanges is of significant importance in advancing US–China relations, and music serves as an excellent bridge for communication, allowing people to transcend language barriers.
The US consul general also mentioned that the Consulate General of the US in Shanghai in will continue supporting people-to-people and cultural exchanges between US and Wuxi and help both sides to expand cooperation in various fields.
