In a bid to improve the urban environment and increase the quality of its resident's life, Rudong county – administered by Nantong in East China's Jiangsu province – has taken concerted action.

It has implemented a project which focuses on the treatment of three main riverways: the Rudong-Taixing Canal, the Jueju and Juekan rivers, as well as their tributaries and banks.

Many riverside facilities are now under construction, including Heming Park – the first wetland-themed park in Rudong.

Covering 870,000 square meters and at a cost of some 400 million yuan ($59.22 million) in total, Heming Park – located by the Jueju River – is designed with five functional zones. These are dedicated zones for urban vitality, industrial sites, water sampling, ecological restoration and riverside landscapes.

With Weihe Road running throughout, the park is divided into southern and northern areas. The southern area is designed with fitness sites and is decorated with plants that will present different scenes through the four seasons.

The highlight of the northern area is a 1.6-kilometer gallery bridge, which on completion will enable visitors to admire the landscape in the day and enjoy light shows at night.

After more than three years of construction, the Three Rivers and Six Banks greening project has come close to an end. It means that Rudong will soon have a place where its people and riverways are in harmony.
