Rudong county in Nantong, Jiangsu province, has been advancing the new energy industry in recent years and has achieved remarkable progress.

In the first nine months of this year, the new energy and equipment industry in the county achieved taxable sales of 74.51 billion yuan ($10.45 billion) and paid 1.38 billion yuan in taxes.

Since 2002, when Rudong started promoting the utilization of wind power resources, the county has established 30 wind power plants, with a total capacity of 5.63 million kilowatts.

In addition to the wind power industry, the solar power industry is another pillar of Rudong's new energy sector. To date, the solar power plants built in the county have a total capacity of 800,000 kilowatts and have generated electricity of over 63 billion kilowatt-hours.

So far this year, the electricity generated by the solar plants in Rudong has reached 10.27 billion kilowatt-hours and is expected to exceed 14 billion kilowatt-hours.

Yangguang Island, which is located in the county's Yangkou Port, plays an important role in receiving liquified natural gas.

The 3-kilometer island is currently home to four LNG terminals, including PetroChina's LNG terminal, which is currently operational, and three others which are currently under construction.

With the help of these terminals, the island's LNG offloading capacity is projected to exceed 22 million metric tons by the end of 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25) period.
