Farmers in Haimen boost strawberry yields with eco-friendly technology
In Sijia town, Nantong's Haimen district, local farmers are improving strawberry cultivation by testing new techniques that help increase both efficiency and yields, ultimately boosting their income.
One of the leading farms, Nantong Maoxinheng Agricultural Products Co, has seen significant success with these innovations. With its own seedling and planting bases, as well as storage and packaging facilities, Maoxinheng has played a key role in advancing strawberry farming in the region.
To help farmers achieve early market entry and better prices, Maoxinheng has introduced a new eco-friendly fertilizer and planting technology at its seedling base. This fertilizer is not only safe and environmentally friendly but also improves soil quality, leading to better strawberry quality and higher yields.
"Our eco-fertilizer boosts the plants' natural resistance and improves the organic matter in the soil, which enhances photosynthesis and results in healthier strawberries," said Xu Yan, chairman of Maoxinheng.
Liu Quanbing, a strawberry grower, has already seen the benefits of using the new fertilizer. He reported that the fruit sets earlier and the roots are healthier, leading to a higher yield.
Liu also pointed out that the eco-fertilizer costs half as much as traditional chemical fertilizers. With stable strawberry prices, he expects to double the income from his 30 greenhouses.
