The themed exhibition "Time Imprints of Kesi Craft Shuttle Through Millennia" recently kicked off at the Chongchuan Library in Nantong, Jiangsu province.

Kesi, originating from the Han and Wei dynasties (206 BC-265), developing during the Tang and Song dynasties (618-1279), and flourishing in the Ming and Qing dynasties (1368-1911), is acclaimed as the "saint of weaving " due to its unique weaving techniques.

It not only presents delicate and rich color layers but also perfectly reproduces the charm of calligraphy and painting. Nantong kesi, as one of the two major varieties of Chinese kesi, has its characteristics distinct from Suzhou kesi.

The wooden loom used in Nantong kesi is notably longer and more intricate in structure, closely resembling traditional homespun cloth looms. This design preserves the smooth yet firm texture of homespun fabric while blending the rich weight of raw silk with the delicate, intricate beauty of kesi, ensuring that its refinement remains uncompromised.
