China recently issued its first batch of new China Certified Emission Reduction (CCER), with two projects from Rudong making the list. The selected projects – Three Gorges New Energy Jiangsu Rudong H6 (400MW) Offshore Wind Farm and the H10 (400MW) Offshore Wind Farm – are now eligible for trading on the national voluntary greenhouse gas emissions reduction trading platform, creating opportunities to generate revenue from emission reductions.
The Three Gorges New Energy Jiangsu Rudong H6 project is expected to achieve an average annual emission reduction of 598,988 metric tons, while the H10 project is of the same scale, with an estimated annual emission reduction of 604,482 tons.
CCER refers to the quantification and certification of greenhouse gas emission reductions from renewable energy, forestry carbon sequestration, methane reduction, and energy efficiency projects in China. These reductions are registered in the national voluntary greenhouse gas emission reduction trading system.
Currently, China has introduced six carbon crediting methodologies under the CCER program, which are offshore wind power, solar thermal power, afforestation, mangrove vegetation creation, and for projects that utilize low-density coal mine gas and adopt energy-efficient streetlights in highway tunnels.
