Lantern Festival cultural presentations and celebrations, intangible cultural heritage performances, hiking, and games will all be hosted by the By-Health Transparent Factory in Sanzao Town, Jinwan District on Sunday, Feb 17.

Yuánxiāo Jié (Lantern Festival), which marks the end of Spring Festival, falls on Feb 19 this year. Its origin, historic evolution, and folk customs will be illustrated on a Culture Wall at the activity site. Visitors can attire themselves in Tang Dynasty (618-907ce) costumes to cosplay the ancients and revive their celebrations.

Intangible cultural heritage items such as Sanzao Lion Dance, Dragon Dance, Sanzao Crane Dance, and Dingjiawan Tea Refreshments will be highlighted, as will folk arts such as paper-cutting and sugar-painting.

Games for which prizes will be awarded include DIY tāngyuán (glutinous rice balls), riddle guessing, an electronic maze, sack race, picking up ping-pong balls with chopsticks, skipping rope, Penguin Roaming (players walk to the finish line with a ball under each arm and another between their legs), bowling, 10-second Challenge, and darts.

Outdoor sport enthusiasts aged between 6 and 60 can dial 0756-3356966 to sign up for an 11-km (6.8-mile) hiking event before Feb 15. The route will start at the factory and proceed to the Beipai River, Chinatown, and Damenkou Wetland Park before looping back to the start line. Runners requiring downtown pick-up and drop-off services will be charged 30 yuan ($4.40), twice as much as other contestants.
