The newly constructed Nanping Elderly Service Institution for "smart" eldercare and medical treatment is being finished and furnished in time to be delivered for use in September. 

The facility is located south of Zhuhai Avenue in Nanping, north of Lianquan Road, and east of Nanquan Road. Costing 470 million yuan ($72 million), the 11,336-sq-m (2.8-acre) facility has floorage of 60,194 sqm (15 acres). It will encompass 14 aboveground floors for eldercare, medical treatment, kitchens, and restaurants, and two basement levels for garage, and equipment, garbage, and laundry rooms.

In all, the institution will have 900 nursing beds and 200 ward beds. It will be equipped with 24-hour thermostat and direct drinking water systems, and barrier-free toilets. The ceilings are made of light, fireproof, and heat-insulated Rockwool boards, while the floor surface is antiskid.

In addition, aluminum alloy windows on the façade are fireproof, heat-insulated, and soundproof to provide a tranquil environment for the elderly. The site is surrounded by residential communities, according to Gao Jian, project manager of China Construction Third Bureau First Engineering.

The Municipal People's Government has attached importance to the construction of senior service systems given an increasingly aging population. As of now, the city has 22 elderly service institutions providing 3,761 beds, while an additional 1,521 beds are available at residential communities and 1,483 more can be found in health institutions.

There are now 35 nursing beds for every 1,000 seniors, a ratio that will increase to 40 per 1000 when five new elderly service institutions at municipal and district levels are completed in a few years. At that time, the city's total number of nursing beds will reach 9,600.
