The Nanping Municipal Elderly Service Institution will be ready by next month to provide intelligent medical treatment and healthcare along with 1,100 urgently needed beds.

One of the Zhuhai's Top 10 Livelihood Projects for 2021, the institution is the first elderly care complex in the city offering both medical care and health preservation. Zhuhai People's (Renmin) Hospital will provide professional services with 200 ward beds and 900 nursing beds for senior residents.

The building is on the south side of Zhuhai Avenue, north of Lianquan Road, and east of Nanquan Road. Construction started in June 2019 and cost 470 million yuan ($73 million). It covers 11,000 sqm (2.72 acres) and has floorage of 60,000 sqm (645,834 sq ft); 14 floors above ground for eldercare, medical treatment, kitchens, and restaurants; and two basement levels for parking, equipment, garbage, and laundry rooms.

The main building was topped off at the end of 2020. Mechanical and electrical installations, façade and interior decorations, outdoor greening, fire protection, water and power supply, and lightning protection were recently completed.

It is completely wheelchair accessible with ramps near all outdoor stairways while interior corridors are equipped with double-layer handrails of differing height. An emergency alarm system, bedside oxygen equipment, barrier-free toilets, and 24-hour temperature control system are available for safety and convenience. 

The ceilings are composed of imported Rockwool boards, which are lightweight, fireproof, and heat-insulated. The floors are antiskid. The façade also is fireproof, heat-insulated, and soundproof with aluminum alloy windows that create a tranquil living environment. Acceptance of energy-saving, green construction, and project plans are currently underway. 

Zhuhai currently has 6,873 beds for elderly care, or 36 beds for every 1,000 seniors. Five public elderly service institution projects at municipal and district levels will elevate the number of beds over 40 for every 1,000 seniors.
