Chimelong Marine Science Park, a core part of the second phase of Chimelong International Ocean Resort, has finished its main structure construction. Upon operation, it is expected to be the world's largest indoor theme park that can accommodate 50,000 tourists per day.

Taking the shape of a giant vessel, the 500,000-sqm (124-acre) modern facility is 650 m (711 yd) in length and has floorage of 400,000 sqm (99 acres). It will have 15 science popularization zones to provide people more access to marine education through multimedia technologies. Of note, the biggest zone will be able to accommodate 5,000 people at the same time.

A 3,200-cubic-meter coral tank, with a depth of 5 m (16 ft), will showcase over 100 kinds of living coral, being the world's largest of its kind.

Jiang Minling, general manager of Chimelong International Ocean Resort, said that the main tank in the park will hold 53,000 cu m of water, setting a new world record. In addition, the acrylic glass window for aquatic exhibitions will also be the world's largest at 46.2 m (50.5 yd) in length and 8.3 m (27.2 ft) in height.

The first phase of Chimelong International Ocean Resort started operation in 2014 and has received more than 80 million visitors.

Bao Jigang, professor at the School of Tourism Management of Sun Yat-sen University, said that the new facility will not only add new tourism highlights to Chimelong International Ocean Resort, but also bring an unreplicable appeal to the cultural tourism industry in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. Moreover, the park will drive the development of cultural tourism industries in Hengqin and Macao.

Of note, the new projects of Chimelong Cable Cars and Marine Adventure Park will open to the public in the next few years.
