The 12th China Embroidery Art Festival opened in Zhenhu, a subdistrict of Suzhou New District, Jiangsu province, on April 18.
The embroidery festival includes an embroidery work release to greet the 70th birthday of China, two forums, two awarding ceremonies and five exhibitions, and will gather numerous renowned embroidery masters and designers.
An agreement on reviving Su embroidery was signed between the Zhenhu subdistrict office and the Chinese Arts and Crafts Institute at the opening ceremony of the festival.
According to the agreement, the two sides will construct a national-level platform to explore new ways to inherit, protect and develop Su embroidery.
They also plan to form a research group to conduct a comprehensive academic review of Su embroidery's history, culture, skills and inheritance.
The Chinese Arts and Crafts Institute decided to locate its first arts and crafts educational base in Zhenhu.
