National Forest City

Hohhot was included on the list of eight national forest cities in China by the China Afforestation Committee and the State Forestry Administration on Apr 27, 2010. 

Its indicators include the rate of forest coverage, greening and public green space per capita, and all have reached the required standards in Hohhot. 

It is the eighth to get this title out of the total 27 capitals in the country, the first among northwestern China's capitals, and the second in western China's capitals. 

National Pilot Innovation City

Hohhot was recognized as a national pilot innovation city by the country's Science and Technology Ministry, in May 2011. 

In August of that year, the municipal government initiated a conference to clearly define the ultimate goals, plans, detailed objectives and key tasks within the 12th Five-Year Plan (2011-2015), in order to build itself into a characteristic city with a comprehensive innovation system.
