Hohhot’s GDP reaches 103,000 yuan per capita

Hohhot's GDP reached 310 billion yuan ($47.5 billion) in 2017 with GDP per capita reaching 103,000 yuan, an increase of 19,000 yuan over five years, according to the government report released at the 15th Hohhot Municipal People's Congress on Jan 6.

Hohhot's fixed asset investment was 820 billion yuan, 1.8 times the previous five years' figure.

According to the report, the past five years saw Hohhot accomplish its primary objectives and targets for economic and social development.

With accelerating industrial restructuring and competitive industries like agriculture and animal husbandry developing steadily, Hohhot also saw emerging industries like biomedicine, new materials and new energy vehicles contributing more than 28 percent of the city's GDP. The region's dairy industry and photovoltaic industry have continued to be global leaders in their respective fields.

The report states that Hohhot saw progress in all social programs and the lives of its citizens improved significantly. Nearly 113 billion yuan was invested in improving people's livelihoods and saw the average per capita disposable income of urban and rural Hohhot residents grow 8 percent year-on-year to 43,000 and 15,700 yuan. The local government built 99,000 subsidized housing units and renovated 1,394 older residential communities.

Making great efforts to alleviate poverty over recent years, Hohhot reports that 102,000 rural residents were elevated out of poverty. Comprehensive progress was also made in education, science and technology, culture, public health and sports programs.
