Inner Mongolia Yili Industrial Group Co's "Industrial Base Precision Poverty Alleviation" model has been included as a representative case of poverty eradication in China in the country's Progress Report on the Implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development (2021).
It was the only Chinese dairy company to have a case highlighted in the report.
Pan Gang, president of the company, delivered a speech at the Sustainability Development Forum 2021 held in Beijing on Sept 26, during which he shared with guests the experiences and stories behind Yili Group's precision poverty alleviation efforts.
Over the years, Yili Group has gradually explored a targeted poverty alleviation model for industrial bases, combined with the industrial characteristics of poverty-stricken areas, and helped lift poor people out of poverty through the development of planting and breeding industries. At the same time, Yili has actively carried out educational poverty alleviation and supported employment.
So far, Yili has helped 5 million aquaculture practitioners shed poverty. In the future, the company plans to invest 30 billion yuan ($4.65 billion) to support the development of the upstream dairy industry, help more farmers and herdsmen to increase their incomes, and promote rural revitalization.
As of the end of 2020, "Yili Nutrition 2020" had been implemented in 25 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions across the country, with a cumulative investment of more than 84 million yuan, benefiting more than 600,000 children.
In 2021, Yili upgraded the project to "Yili Nutrition 2030", which is a platform-based public welfare project that seeks to protect the health of children.
